We are pleased to share that the Feminists for Life Board of Directors has named Kara Sorenson-Smith as our new Executive Director. Kara will lead FFL’s work to address the challenges that can drive women to abortion and advance better solutions for women and families.
Kara first became involved with FFL as a student leader, organizing a Pregnancy and Parenting Resource Forum (PPRF) that led to better support for students on her campus. As an FFL intern, she took that model to college interns on Capitol Hill, challenging them to uncover gaps on their own campuses and pursue solutions so pregnant and parenting students could succeed in school, their careers, and as parents. She went on to serve FFL as a national speaker, writer, and Board Chair.
“I am deeply honored to take on this role at an organization that has meant so much to me,” Kara said. “What first brought me to Feminists for Life still motivates me today: women should never feel like they have to choose between their children and their education, careers, or future. This is an exciting moment for FFL, and I see tremendous opportunity to welcome new voices and bring new energy to our work.”
Alongside her work with FFL, Kara has built a career in communications, marketing, and fundraising. She holds a Master of Public Administration with a focus in nonprofit and faith-based organizations from Regent University and a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communication from Clarion University.
“For years, I have watched Kara serve Feminists for Life in nearly every possible role—from intern and speaker to Board Chair,” said Serrin, who is passing the leadership of FFL to Kara after 32 years as President. “She understands who we are, what we have built, and why this work matters. I trust Kara with the mission that has been my life’s work, and I could not be more pleased to see her lead Feminists for Life into the future.”
Please join us in welcoming Kara.
